My (limited) understanding is that the ratio of omega 3:6 is important and
Americans tend to have diets overly high in 6s and low in 3s. So, flaxseed
oil is not a good substitute for fish oil. For vegans, my understanding is
that krill oil (though technically this is animal and not vegetable, so I'm
not completely clear here) is a good option.
I don't know much about omega 9s at all...
