Mary,
We never deny pumps for the most part. Most of our clients do NOT have land
lines... not sure how many are on methadone. But we ask for two alternate
contact numbers of people who know them well (and who should know how to
find them). I assume your concern is pump loss. We stay on top of things as
tightly as we can. Our local hospitals have our pumps on the premise for WIC
moms. We try to get them here to issue a pump, but for weekends and holidays
and such, it has been a great arrangement. The contract is faxed and mailed
to us, and we follow-up by phone once we are notified. We try to stay in
contact with the moms, though we have a lot of pumps to track. When baby is
discharged, we want to know and we frequently set up a consultation to see
how things are going. At any rate, I don't think our loss rate is higher
with this population. And we do put a flag in their file so that they are
asked about the pump when the come in for their WIC appointments.

Hello everyone,

I would love to hear from the WIC LC's regarding their pump policies for
their NICU moms. Particularly those moms that do not have a land line(just
a cell phone) and those that are on Methadone. Do you deny these moms
access to the WIC pumps in particular?

Thank you. I look forward to hearing from you.
