I agree with Mary-Jane, a pre-birth consult is beneficial.
I had one mother who had an extensive amount of breast tissue removed -
pumped for a 26-week, 430g prem and produced ample milk until the baby died
of SIDs at 9 months of age. This mother nursed another child for 3 years.
There is never any guarantee of a full milk supply, but it does sometimes
happen with good support from ALL around the mother.
