Hi,
My name is Mindy Schlueter and I am a Student at Iowa State University. I will be graduating with my bachelors degree in Kinesiology and health (with specialization in community and public health) next year and would like to pursue a certification to be a lactation consultant. I have already tried contacting various places to try to find information. I have also looked at the IBLCE website to find out how to go about the process. They have three pathways to do so and pathway 3 is what I am under. I have done some job shadowing with a lactation consultant already and love it! I really want to do this as a career but am worried that I will have trouble finding a mentor for my required 500 hours of supervised clinical experience with a recertified lactation consultant. Does anybody have any advice for me and my pursuit of a mentor? So far I am trying to contact people in the Quad city area of Iowa and Illinois. I have also looked into attending la leche league meetings to learn more about breastfeeding. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Mindy Schlueter
