I recently attended the Aust Lactation Consultants Assoc conference (had a
wonderful time- always very good speakers) and over the weekend I sorted my
way through the stuff in the conference bag and found an info sheet from
Marie Stopes International. This inof sheet provides information on barrier,
permanent, interuterine and hormonal methods of contraception. Disturbingly
nothing on LAM and the info on hormonal methods includes: Combined pill:
start 6 weeks to 6 months after delivery if breastfeeding
Depo-Provera If breastfeeding can be injected if less than 6 weeks
post-delivery. If more than 6 weeks post-delivery, ensure that you are not
pregnant first.
I rang Marie Stopes to ask about this and also to ask how breastfeeding is
included in their reproductive health work in developing countries.....I'm
waiting for the callback.
