I just had my first mammomogram. the questionnaire I filled out in the
waiting room had questions about the reason for the mammogram (routine vs
lump or other breast changes?), oral contraceptive use/how many years,
personal/family history of breast or other cancers, etc. I was very
surprised there was no question about my menstrual history, reproductive
history, or breastfeeding history.
so I wrote in on the form: my age of menarche, the ages at which I had my
children (30, 33, & 35˝), and that I breastfed each of my sons 2-3 years.
just curious if others have had or not had those questions on their
mammogram history questionnaire? why is breastfeeding given so little
importance in breast health?! my 8˝ years of almost continuous lactation is
a lot longer than my 27 months of pregnancies.
but of course, in our “bottle-feeding” society, bf would be considered the
variable that “lowers” the risk of breast cancer, but would the
weissingerized version of that statement be that women who *don’t bf* have a
*higher* risk of breast cancer or a *normal*” risk of breast cancer??
