Karen, is there a reason why this baby has been weighed like this?
AC/PC weights are subject to error; in addition a single 'test
weight' is no more than a 'snapshot' of what is happening at other
times of the day and night. If there is no clinical reason to be
concerned (vis a vis the baby's weight, health, development) then
there is no reason to do a test weight. Even then, you are still
getting no more than a picture of *one* feed - I know some people use
the test weight as part of a wider, clinical assessment and I can
accept this can be justified as long as they know what they're doing
:) and can see it as only one part of the wider assessment.
The best way to assess supply is to assess the baby, in any case!
It does not matter if the mother has a 'poor' milk supply if it is
adequate for the baby. By the same token, a gushing, generous milk
supply is no use if the baby cannot transfer it.
Hope other people chip in!
