I have a mom who has a very damaged nipple due to poor latch. Mom has beem
doing moist wound healing with Lanolin, her own milk and Hydrogel. She is
pumping, on affected side only, and has been for over two weeks now without
much change. Mom's nipple has been scabbed for most of this time. Pump
flange size was checked and changed to reduce rubbing. Mom also has had
prior breast surgery and her nipple was affected, but not completely moved.
Would her prior breast/nipple surgery have anything to do with the healing
time for this wound? Are there any other suggestions that I could offer to
the mom to speed healing. What about using the Lanolin and her milk and the
hydrogel together?
Would there be any benefit in any air-drying at all?(with lanolin and/or
milk applyed)
What about the risk of thrush with the use of the hydrogel? Is there any
literature or studies on yeast and hydrogel?
I have searched the archives, looking for any new tidbits.
Thanks in advance,
Kimberly Durdin, IBCLC
