cracked nipples

I saw a mom today whose baby is 3 weeks old. Mom has been pumping for a week
due to severely cracked and separating nipples at the base and tip of the
nipple. 

She has used GV for a week as well. The nipples are bright red and not
healing at all. Baby's latch looked fine. What would you recommend? A
fungus? Mom has also been using JN nipple ointment with no improvement as
well. 

Baby is gaining well. 

 

What would you recommend?
