Dear Friends:

Debra hits a key nail on the head.....the major conflict between the use and
abuse of formula.

If I was HIV+ and lived in the US, or had some of the 5 other reasons not to
breastfeed (from the CDC) or was unable to make a full supply, it *would *be
awful to use cans labeled with such warnings.

So how can we handle the routine acceptance, promotion and use of human milk
substitutes. Maybe by changing the name to just that? "As in Nestle's brand
of human milk substitute"?

Here's where governments have to step in, as they have finally done with
tobacco. The WHO Code must have teeth to be effective, else we are all
spinning our wheels. Government has a duty to protect the health of the
public from the drive for profit.

What do you all think?

warmly,

Nikki Lee RN, BSN, Mother of 2, MS, IBCLC, CCE, CIMI
