Were you saying that the baby sucks in bursts of about 3 suck/swallows
and then comes off each time? If sucking bursts are consistently short,
that could point to a cardiorespiratory problem too. Is there any
stridor (high pitched, squeeky breathing) or blue hands and feet?
Panting in the pauses? Evidence of working too hard to breathe?
If a baby with a respiratory issue (laryngomalacia, tracheomalacia) or a
cardiac problem were schedule fed ala Babywise, that could certainly
contribute to failure to thrive. Babies for whom feeding is scary will
often start balking around 3 months of age.
