Just got our measures today. It is one of them. The hospital is gearing up! Sometimes with excuses, other times with reasons to fix it. We’ll see. But I'm excited! I was asked to speak about it. We are measuring breastfeeding in the NICU on a day to day basis (what percent of babies are getting any breast milk). We interpret as getting a DROP of formula as non-exclusive. Nurses have to document why they gave formula. It is still patient choice that drives it, but we know how nurses and society affect patient choices, also.

Subject: JCAHO and exclusive breastfeeding core measure
I have been 'off list' for a while so please forgive me if this has been asked. I have heard a rumor that the Joint Commission is abandoning the exclusive breastfeeding as a core measure. Can anyone confirm of deny this?
Thanks
