We have been working on a policy to deal with mothers afflicted with H1N1 (one we hope we don't have to use!)for our hospital. I read the posts about some hospitals restriciting visitors and the CDC guidelines saying that mom and baby should be separated for 48 hours. I am trying to steer my manager away from that idea as I feel the damage to the mother baby couplet has to outweigh any potential risk of infection if mom is breastfeedin. I came across this article from the American Academy of Pediatrics, dated 10/13/09. It is authored by Ruth Lawrence and I like its recommendations. Any thoughts from you all on this? (sorry if this is old news, I haven't gotten to read all the posts this week!)
