Marianne,
I too think the mom's own gut issues seem like a likely source for all of
the allergies we see today in breastfed babies. We pass on our flora to our
children after all. Although she only provides anecdotal evidence, I find
Natasha Campbell-McBride's theory on allergies compelling. "Gut and
Psychology Syndrome" is her book, and yes, she sells a very expensive
probiotic and proposes a special diet for healing the gut (and allergies and
autism and and and). She believes the current state of bad gut health is
due to:

-higher rate of c/sections
-sanitized food supply and lack of fermented foods in the diet
-chlorinated water
-overuse of antibiotics

An overview is at gapsdiet.com and I'd be curious to hear what others on
this list think.
