I think the way Karleen described is the way to go. If there is too much
information on the slide, then the speaker is almost unnecessary. I have
always believed that the slides (and transparencies back in the day) should
be used to illustrate or emphasize certain points, not to actually deliver
contents. I'm not the best notetaker, but so many people use power points so
that their audience does not have to take notes and the learning becomes
very passive (and sub par). At the same time, the speaker is not engaging
with the audience like they could. (Marianne, I'm not implying that you are
doing this. I'm just generalizing from my experiences)

Instead of selling the handouts, what about selling a recording of your
presentation, just as they do at conferences?
