In France we also have a few "sénologue", so sén ==> sein (breast); mostly
involved in breast cancer of course;
But the "father" of mammologist is Professeur Charles Gros, close to
Strasbourg, Fance, and Dominique Gros his son, wrote a very good book "Le
sein dévoilé" which could be "the breast revealed" and "the breast
uncovered"; this book is really great, explaining the breast under all its
aspects: cosmetic, breastfeeding..... I do not know if it was translated
into english, but it is really worth reading it;
I share it with my trainees, I love it;
(note please, the creator of mammology is French, was working in France, his
son working in France, Franc ewhich is the country of no-breastfeeding or
not-so-long breastfeeding or not-so-exclusive-breastfeeding :-)

It was a bit surprising for me to read your post, because in my country
there are mammologists - and they are called so.
They are mostly obstetricians and/or oncologists with interest in breast
cancer - and breast cancer prevention too, which means they are doing the
annual breast examinations and mammograms, if necessary.
Sometimes we refer lactating mothers to them too - for evaluating
inflammation, treatment of mastitis and breast abcess and more difficult
situations (papilomas etc). But they cannot help with breastfeeding
problems, of course - I have had experiences of mothers who got the
suggestion for abrupt weaning because of nipple cracks!
