I have just learned a very interesting nugget of information from the husband of a patient who happens to be the manager of our local Wal-Mart.
It seems that the 'Americans with Disabilities' act compels employers to provide breaks and 'reasonable accommodation'(ie not the bathroom) for mothers pumping milk for their babies at work providing she obtains a letter from an MD explaining that it is medically necessary for the baby to have breast milk ( which of course, it is!) If a company does not do this then they have to prove that it would cause them distress as a company and they are in violation of the act.
Walmart are very concious of this and make every effort to comply - the husband was astonished that any company would NOT comply in case they were prosecuted!
I have not yet found the exact reference in the act - which is vast - but I have printed it out and plan on delving into it tonight.
