Marianne,
I read your account of the HS exam and the artifical baby milk question and
first off thanked my lucky stars that I am homeschooling my kids! That doesn't
help others' situation though. I would fire off a letter to the editor of the local
newspaper expressing outrage, and demand a public accounting from the
school system (assuming schools work the same way there that they do in the
US). Here in the US there is great controversy over the fact that childhood
obesity rates are rising and the schools' cafeterias are nothing more than food
courts offering fast food franchise meal options and sugary carbonated drinks.
Corporate sponsorship is big money, whether it is in the cafeteria or a name
on the school's new auditorium or football stadium. Many people are just
happy that their taxes haven't gone up--they don't realize until its too late
where the money comes from to fund programs. Raising awareness is the first
step to battling this encroachment. Good luck to you!
