Use of donor cord blood is a relatively new and quite promising
technology. Blood cells in the umbilical cord are a form of stem cell
and can be used in treatment of a growing number of serious and life
threatening disorders, particularly blood disorders such as leukemia.
Donating cord blood in a case such as the one below is risk, pain and
cost free to the donor. Blood is drawn from the umbilical cord
immediately after the birth of a baby. This life giving blood would
otherwise be discarded.
If you know anyone expecting a baby in the next couple of months,
please pass this on to her. Feel free also to pass it to other lists
or individuals.
Thanks,
Naomi
