Hi All,
I am working with a mom 22, primipara, who I saw first when her baby was 4
weeks old. He was just under birth weight, and she thought all was fine,
except that he was BF all the time. We started a FF at breast with pumped
milk when she had, and formula the other times. Basically after 3 weeks of
pumping after every feed, she is still not up to full supply. What is
interesting is that she is logging everything, and she said there is no
rhyme or reason- she feels that her supply is "all over the place". One day
she gives no supplements and feels very full, and another she may need to
give 4 "bottles". This is unrelated to anything, stress, eating, drinking,
etc. She is feeling frustrated that it is so unpredictable, and even with
domperidone she cannot get to full supply. We checked for placental
fragments because she was having cramping. We did a thyroid test that came
out normal. Why the drastic difference in supply? What am I missing?
Thanks,
Jessica Billowitz, IBCLC
