Dear Friends:
One used to be able to purchase tryptophan in the local health food store.
Because of some contamination issues with products coming from other
countries into the USA, tryptophan was banned. And now it is being used in
formula.

What struck me as funny after reading the abstract (thank you Rachel, for
sharing it) about different formulas is that if this trend continues,
formula feeding will become more and more complicated.

Imagine this: the formula to be used from 9 am to 9 pm, and then the formula
to be used from 9 pm to 9 am. Then the formula that should be used in the
afternoon for the famous "witching hour".  How can a mother remember all the
different kinds? Imagine going to a store and having to purchase several
different kinds of formula. What will WIC do? Will all mothers purchase
night-time formula (to keep their babies silent) for all day use? What will
that do to health and growth and maturation, as well as development of
personality and social skills?

Then formula to be used for specific diseases....can you see how industry is
going to all extremes to make human milk and its blessed biochemistry and
physiology in a can? Who will be able afford all these tailored formulae?
Will women that can only afford the basic, one-size fits all times formulae
be considered inferior mothers because they can't afford a full day's range
of different formulae?

So much energy, time, effort, and non-renewable resources to manufacture
what every mother can with little effort.

How crazy can humans get with their reproductive process? Pretty damn crazy,
but I guess that goes along with a 100% cesarean section rate.
