Thank you so much for the many words of advice. I really appreciate
everyone's feedback. I am a true believer of following a mother's instinct. I
have considered that the baby's oral tone is low and have discussed that with
her. I will see them in 2 days. I have not discussed competely stopping
supplements, only during the feedings that he is alert and eats well. I have
witnessed those feedings and he is capable of transferring 2 ozs and is
completely satisifed following the feed. It is the feedings that she feels she
cannot keep up with and he is not satisfied, that I feel he defenitely needs a
supplement. His output is excellent. He has bm's with almost every feeding.
I have discussed the SNS with her and perhaps that would be best to
introduce, especially during those cluster feeds when she percieves her milk
supply to be inadequate. I am most discouraged by the length of feeds and
the quantity transferred. I realize it is tiresome for mom and baby to have
long feedings and mom is becoming resentfull of the amount of time she is
spending. I will continue to encourage and support. I give constant pats on
the backs to moms. I know that they are doing all the work. It pains me to
tell a new mom that is sleep deprived, exhausted and overwhelmed that she
must feed her baby, pump 6-8 times per day and supplement. She is doing a
great job. I want her to enjoy her baby and she has verbalized that although
she wants to breastfeed, she is not enjoying being a mother because of the
feeding difficulties. She feels that something so natural has become
calculated and unnatural. I have a good feeling that he is going to turn
around in the next week or so. I will defenitely give updates to all of you who
have been so supportive. I feel better and am so happy to have some advice
from more experienced lc's. Much of the advice reinforces to me that I am
doing the right things and some things, I am learning from.

Fondly,
Laura
