I agree with Susan, and have said so in many prior posts. Babies can be
losing weight but have the "correct" number and color of stools and even
urine until they get too dehydrated.
What I have found to be a pretty good indicator is the fullness of mother's
breasts. If they get very full and feel like maybe somebody gave her
implants when she wasn't looking, that is a good sign. If they are "kind of"
full or the mom says she is not sure her milk came in, that is a big red
flag.
The wet and dirty diaper count is part of a screening in the early days, and
not the final word on how the infant is doing.
