Thank you, Karen, for pointing out the physician pdf for the Mirena IUD. I
agree that it does seem to have a different tone, especially since it
discusses a potential increased risk of perforation in lactating women, and the
"post-marketing" reports of "decreased milk production."
I'll be teaching a breastfeeding class tonight, and contraception while
lactating is a topic that is included in the outline. H-m-m...Perhaps good
information to have on hand when the doctor gets on your case for telling
women about possible side effects of hormonal-based contraception.
