Something is really wrong here.  Standard practice in Australia is to fast
infants for no more than six hours prior to anaesthesia - and to treat
breastmilk as a clear fluid which may be given up to 2 hours before the

Fasting an infant for 14 hours or more would put the child at significant
risk of hypernatraemia.  Surely there has been some misunderstanding and you
and/or the mother needs to talk to the anaesthetist and the surgeon again.
