Since social interaction is a big challenge for these kids, what better
than breastfeeding! Nursing certainly leads to much greater interaction than
a bottle which can become very remote from the bottle giver. It's not
easy to separate the breast from the mother!

No scientific studies just my own experience.
I would have to say this is true for me and so glad that I nursed my first
who also has autism. He was very challenging and it would have been much
easier for me if he was bottlefed or weaned early to limit interaction with
him because of his behaviors and his not wanting to be with me like a
typical toddler. But he would nurse and it was the time he wanted me and I
enjoyed being with him in a positive way. I think nursing is the connection that
kept us together and him not getting farther away. I nursed him until 5 yrs
(weaned when our next child was born). I now have 4 other children who do
not have autism. (Unrelated to breastfeeding but we did the full vaccine
schedule with him and not with the other children--not to say I think this is
the cause of autism but I do wonder why him and not the others.)
