Hello all,
We went through lice issues many times when the kids were younger. It
is a year round issue in Hawaii, and local people don't get excited
about it, you just deal with it. A good preventive measure---I would
sprinkle lemon juice in the hair of the kids before school, and for
my girls I would braid their hair to keep it in tight--not too tight.
Treatment---every morning I would massage in Tea Tree Oil Shampoo
(you can add in about 10 drops of tea tree oil to any shampoo)--leave
in for 10 minutes. Rinse with vinegar and follow up with a
conditioner to cover the vinegar odor. Do not use vinegar if they
have open cuts from scratching so much. The vinegar helps to kill
nits and loosen the "glue." The adults would go crazy, and it was
easier to find them. After the wash, we would sit outside in the sun
and pick out the nits and the adults.
My oldest always likes to get me going and says she will formula
feed. The other kids always say, "Mom will disown you!" She replies
that mom knows I am joking--but I am not going to give birth at home,
and I will have an epidural! I still have a little work ahead of me!
Regards,
Gloria in humid Va.
