We look at each case and approve a pump based on the case, based on the need for a pump etc. If they only have a cell phone and need methadone, these are not reasons for denying a pump, especially if the mother is committed to providing breastmilk for her baby. Actually, the only time we deny an electric pump is if mother wants to occassionally pump so someone else can offer a bottle. Because we need to save our electric pumps from mothers with more pressing issues, this mother would get a manual pump...
We try to do everything we can to support the breastfeeding mother and baby.
