Dear Colleagues: I need your help with advising a mom who called me today.
(The mother gave permission for me to post). She is nursing her 4 month old
and found out 3 weeks ago that she is pregnant but is unsure of her EDC.
She suspects that she is about 6 weeks gestation. For the past week, her
baby has vomited after every breastfeeding session but does not vomit when
he receives expressed breastmilk (pumped in February) when he is at
daycare. He eagerly nurses and does not pull off the breast but vomits
immediately after the feeding. I am aware that milk supply decreases (and
her supply has decreased) and the taste of the milk changes early on due to
increased sodium and decreased lactose. However, has anyone ever heard of
a baby vomiting "pregnant" milk????
