Sorry, i am a bit behind with my post, but I would highly recommend to
check out "Thermal Protection of the Newborn: a pratical guide" from WHO.
This document is also highly recommended in our BFHs.
It talks about on how to prevent low temperature in babies during bathing
and s2s in cold L&d and O.R .
"Bathing of the newborn baby soon after birth causes a drop in temperature
and is not
necessary.
If cultural tradition demands bathing, this should not be carried out before
6 hours
after birth and preferably the second or third day of life. The newborn
should be
healthy and its temperature normal.
Bathing should be done quickly in a warm room, using warm water. The baby
should be dried thoroughly, dressed and placed near the mother."
THE WARM CHAIN
1 Warm delivery room
2 Immediate drying
3 Skin-to-skin contact
4 Breast-feeding
5 Bathing and weighing postponed
6 Appropriate clothing and bedding
7 Mother and baby together
8 Warm transportation
9 Warm resuscitation
1 0 Training/awareness raising
