Is this her first baby?
If she had mastitis in that breast with a prior baby, I would guess it is a
galactocele. It also could be an abscess.
I recently had a mom with an abscess, that the U/S said was not a fluid
collection. I begged the radiologist to stick a needle in it anyway, and
she got 2 oz pus out. Abscesses are USUALLY tender, but not always. A
couple years back we had a mom with a recalcitrant mass begind the
areola...turned out it was an abscess. Did not know until it was "biopsied"
with a needle, and continued to drain pus after mom went home.
I recently saw a prenatal abscess that was not red or tender until after
delivery.
