The maternal grandmother died of breast cancer at a young age. The mother
is aware that the longer she can maintain breastfeeding, the more the
risks of both her, and her daughter, developing breast cancer, are mitigated.
I'm therefore looking for cites, on breast cancer risk and breastfeeding -
much of what I've found on established sites, such as Kellymom etc, are
quite old. I'd be really happy if one could be found with a nice pithy line
to quote, about the duration of breastfeeding being an
important factor. :-)
Morgan,
I know the research on duration being related to the mother's risk factors,
but am not aware of any research on duration of the child's breastfeeding
being related, so that may not interest this father. There may be something
I'm not aware of but I thought it was more the early days/week of
breastfeeding for the girl child, and then the child growing up, having a baby and
that baby breastfeeding that was more important. Perhaps it might be good
to focus more on the health, now and future of the child, in the many other
ways that breastfeeding might have an impact. Since I have seen mothers try
to use breastfeeding as a separator tool against the baby's father, ( not
taking away the critical nature of it for the child) it might be good to
focus on how this is a critical part of normal development for the child and
say nothing about the mother?
Just musing,
Peace,
Judy
