Yes, would definitely inquire about baby being admitted the night prior for IV 
hydration.  Surgeons did this somewhat routinely at the pediatric hospital I 
just rotated through, so as to avoid dehydration.  We also did the infants first 
thing in the morning as well to avoid a prolonged period of fasting.  I imagine 
the extra-long time period of NPO in this case is to help keep the bowels 
empty for the surgery...  

No good recommendations to help get mom/baby through the night, 
unfortunately, it will be rough I'm sure.  In an adult we could give "sleeping 
aids" but not so much for the little ones...
