Supplementing mothers with vit D when a baby is seriously deficient is not going to be adequate. It takes too long for the mother's levels to rise to benefit the baby. If baby is okay, then supplementing the mother is, IMO the correct approach. But, it is absurd to supplement a baby and not the mom--how does anyone think the baby's levels got to be so low? As much as I dislike supplementing babies with anything, I do indeed believe we have a crisis in our population where vit D is concerned, but the approach needs to be in treating the pregnant woman, not supplementing the infant.

What frustrates me once
more is that holistic practioners have been aware of the need for vit D
supplementation for many years and now that the pharmaceutical
companies are onto it, everyone is being recklessly supplemented with
no appropriate eval or tracking.

As an aside--I have found that the most effective treatment for Reynaud's is to supplement with magnesium and normalize the mother's vit D levels (assuming we have addresed latch, of course).
