I, too, have wondered this.  I think there are a number of reasons.  Here are a few.  I'm sure you can come up with others.

1 - They're so cute! (until reality sets in and you learn they are not just live dolls)
2 - Everybody does it. (and you are considered wierd or even perverted if you don't want to be a parent)
3 - Oops! (but as long as the pregnancy is here, we might as well go ahead with it)
4 - So many people out there asure you that you can -even should -  "have your cake and eat it too" (If you only follow such-and-such program you will be guaranteed to have a perfect child and not have to give up anything in your current life!)
