I have been contacted by a mother who has just been diagnosed with breast cancer following biopsy. The tumour is strongly positive for both oestrogen and progesterone receptors. The oestrogen receptor score is 8/8 and the progesterone receptor score is 4/8.
She is breastfeeding her 3 year old and is booked for surgery next week.
The hospital has not given her any advice regarding weaning.
Should she commence weaning on the affected breast in preparation for surgery?
Should she also wean on the other breast?
Does anyone have any recent references on breast cancer during lactation?
With Thanks
