I have been very busy reviewing Dr. Spernoff's article on using progesterone at delivery or by 3-4 weeks. I have been critically reading his references as well. You won't believe some of the flaws in these works! One even goes so far as to "Blame the breastfeeding" for the low weight gain in those exclusively breastfeeding while on depo!
But, what I would really love to hear are some cases. I realized in retrospect the moms that I have cared for were either primips or first time breastfeeders. Could these women be more susceptible to loss of supply secondary to progesterone? What are their patterns of loss? All three of my mothers noticed a drop within 2 weeks. The MIrena literature lists that there are case reports of low milk supply post insertion, does any one have any information about these mothers?
Thanks for any help you can give me. Chris
