Hi Morgan
Here the term 'weaning' is generally used to describe a mother-led process
of terminating breastfeeding. More often than not it involves moving a baby
from breastfeeding to bottle feeding. If the word is used in some other
way, it is accompanied by a qualifier as in "weaning straight to a cup" or
"I'll let her wean herself when she is ready". It is rarely if ever used to
refer to the process of introducing solid foods and some mothers worry that
introducing solids too enthusiastically can lead a baby to "wean early" or
"self wean".
Ah the joys of living in countries separated only by a common language!
Cheers
Nina
