Hi Lacneters,
To respone to Mary Ann's questions that attempts don't count...I'll agree,
it is not a definition of significant breastfeeding.
I would think that the cabable, well nourished, but tired baby(after long
or difficult birth) who has only attempted may be ok, even if it hasn't had a
significant breastfeeding.
If the first few feedings are good feedings they are signs of things
probably going well. If the first feedings are non feedings, they are signs that
the couple should be closely followed., maybe assisted, maybe assisted a lot.
Mother is learning at this time and so is baby. I donlt think the breasts
necessarily need pumps at this point. I donlt think the average baby
absolutely needs milk. They need time to be together and need to learn to respond
to each other and within a day or two the interaction is responding at the
breast, with baby learning to drink mother's milk.
what do you think, Kathy? and others?
