Janine-
I don't know if Patricia is still on Lactnet, but her article on nursing
twins (plus her singletons) after a childhood burn injury is a must read for
your client.
One Breast is Enough by Patricia Blomme (Mar/Apr 2005)

Hope that is helpful,

Subject: Old burn injury of breast
I have permission from my client to post and would appreciate any help wi=
th this case.
My client, 28 weeks pregnant has an old burn injury from when she was a c=
hild 4years old (boiling water) on her chest extending from just below t=
he neck down to her left breast including the upper area of the nipple. =
There is no scarring below the areola and nipple. The burn scarring appe=
ars keloid and I should think was a full thickness burn at the time.
She desperately wants to breastfeed. On examination, her right breast an=
d nipple are perfect, no burn injury there. The left breast is pulling u=
p towards the sternum slightly. The scarred area is hard to touch and tau=
t. The rest of her breast is soft and lower side of the nipple normal. =
Basically all the scarring is on the upper, right & lateral aspect of th=
e breast.
At this stage she has not felt any changes in her breast, she has slight =
fullness in her right breast. She is very positive and wants to try to b=
reastfeed certainly if it is only from one breast.=20
I would really appreciate some help with this.
