Could be what they used to call "milk fever". The permeability of the
breast in the first 4-5 days caused fever in some women. Once the gap
junctions close up as the lactocytes swell, she might be fine. Did she
ever make it through lactogenesis II?
If her only symptom is fever, and the fever is not dangerously high, why
not continue to bf and see if it goes away? Prophylactic fever reducers
seem like a good idea.
ER docs tend to know very little about bf, unfortunately.
