Dear Friends:
Dr. Wight reminds us that there are perchlorates in most foods and water. It
is also in human milk.
Is this okay?
Humans apparently can tolerate minute amounts of some pollutants. A little
bit of X in formula. A little bit of X in vegetables. A little bit of X in
water. Each by itself may be insignificant. (Here's where industry chimes in
saying " oh a little bit of X is alright, according to some
standard..........so we don't have to modify our product or change our
manufacturing process.")
However, the concern for our babies is the cumulative bioburden. So a baby
that gets a little bit of X every day in its formula (or sadly, in its
mother's milk) added to the little bit of X the baby gets in its daily food
added to the little bit of X the baby gets in its daily water adds up to a
poisonous bioburden over the course of a young life.
Why are we tolerating ANY pollution? Rachel Carson pointed out in the 1950s
that the impact of pollution shows up first in the reproductive system, so
the eagle egg shells were too weak for the hen eagle to sit on without
crushing them. What makes humans think that we are somehow immune to toxic
chemicals?
warmly, and fearful for the 7th generation......
