Hello all!
I rarely come into contact with this situation. I have a G2L1 mom at 26 weeks gestation
complaining of severe breast engorgement and "lumpiness"; no signs of mastitis; actively
leaking small amounts of colostrum. Mom breastfed 1st baby and plans to breastfeed this
one also. But, mom complains of breast pain associated with engorgement.
Mom is currently using ice packs and reduced stimulation, proper-fitting bra.
After discussing with her CNM, we both agreed trying Evening Primrose Oil was not yet
suitable due to her gestational age (we wouldn't want her to efface or dilate too soon).
I discouraged cabbage use also at this time (we don't want to dry up- just relieve
engorgement).
Any suggestions? I will be doing a full evaluation tomorrow. Thanks in advance for your
thoughts.
Kind regards,
