Dear Friends:
I just learned that Nestle uses pork as one of the ingredients in its Good
Start formula. The pork is in the form of gelatin by-products, used during
the process of hydrolyzing the proteins. Even their soy formula isn't
kosher, as it is made in the same place as the cow based formula.
All the WIC programs in the 8 states where Nestle was awarded the contract
to provide formula have a mess on their hands now, as Muslims, vegetarians,
Jewish and 7th Day Adventist clients have to be told that the formula
available to them from WIC is not kosher.
As if Nestle wasn't our favorite company already.....
The good news that in my City, more women on WIC are breastfeeding and more
are interested in relactation, in part to deal with this problem.
warmly,
