My sister had a terrible, nearly fatal 5-year struggle with Lyme disease.
(So have several IBCLCs.) The spirochete that causes Lyme (as with other
spirochetes) is transmitted sexually and during pregnancy, and some babies
have died from untreated Lyme. It appears that the spirochete is inactivated
or destroyed in human milk, but that doesn't seem to help the babies who
contracted it prenatally, nor their mothers, nor anyone who contracts it at
other times.

Because of Nancy's nightmare with Lyme, I've gathered a large bibliography,
and extensive references, and links related to Lyme. Lyme is being
investigated as a possible factor in Alzheimer's, autism, MS, Gulf War
syndrome, and other neurological diseases. I wouldn't wish this disease on
my worst enemy.

If anyone wants more information about Lyme (or other tick-borne
co-infections), feel free to call or email.
