One way I've been teaching people about mom's learning capacity - give her
only as much as can fit in her baby's stomach!
It gives them a "visualization" of how important it is to pick the MOST
important information - and SKIP the rest - she won't remember it anyway!
(I admit at times I DO turn to Dad or Grandma if there is some information I
KNOW they need to have such as appointment times or warning signs.)
Instead you could be doing more important things, like encouraging skin to
skin, observing infant and maternal interactions (which you can't observe
when you're busy looking at your OWN checklist of "things to teach/say") and
giving her time to "process" becoming a mother...
