What I encounter on a daily basis is breastfed babies getting 2 or more
bottles per day for no good reason :-( Babies are obese by several months
of age :-( I am seeing 18-20 pound 3 & 4 month olds. Doubling birth
weights by 2-3 mo instead of 6 mo. I think their stomachs have been
stretched. They act like they need it. Moms doubt their milk supply :-(
It's a vicious circle. Because so many adults are obese has our "fat/obese"
vision changed? That is, because so many are heavy is that what we see as
normal? Asthma used to be the biggest problem we saw in our peds office,
now it is obesity.
We recently asked that NO formula be stocked in our babies cribs at hospital
if mom says she is breastfeeding or doing "both./dos" I am constantly
telling moms to breastfeed "only/solo" for at least the first mo to build a
good milk supply before they add bottles for work or convenience. Is it a
Hispanic thing? What have been others experiences? Thanks, Pat in SNJ
