I have been working with a mom/baby dyad for the last several weeks. The
baby is now three months old. Mom had persistent sore nipples that
ultimately resolved with antibiotics, followed by diflucan for both her and
the baby.
The mom was treated with a course of diflucan twice and the baby was
treated once. During each time the mom was on diflucan, the baby stopped
having frequent bowel movements. The milk supply was adequate and the baby
was feeding well and gaining appropriately. But when the mom was on
diflucan, the baby did not stool for several days. After about 5 days, when
she was displaying symptoms of distress, the mom would give her a glycerin
suppository and she would stool. This happened with both courses of
diflucan. Now that treatment is completed successfully, the baby is
stooling once or twice daily on her own.
Has anyone else seen lack of bowel movements in a baby when the mom
is treated with difulcan?
