I was told by the higher ups that JCAHO is requiring all syringes and needles
be locked up and not at patients' bedsides. The needle part is no problem,
but we use a lot of syringes. We leave syringes with moms as a means to
give colostrum to infants in the room when necessary and as a way to
transport pumped milk to our neonatal care unit. Has anyone heard of this or
dealt with it yet? Please share how you are able to comply with this JCAHO
requirement. Thanks, Mandy Schaub, MS, RD, IBCLC
