Hi Karen
I am sorry you are feeling hesitant to post here. Robust debate ... even if
it occasionally degenerates as a result of overwhelming passion - is surely
better than no debate at all.
As I understand the Code, it does not take issue with your seeking
scientific and factual information from manufacturers about products that
fall inside its scope. Neither does it prohibit you from providing them
with information that will enable them to produce a better (safer for
airways) product - or from approaching them to ask if they will produce
such a product.
It only prohibits companies and individuals from advertising products to the
general public and mothers.
The Code certainly doesn't prohibit you from conducting or disseminating
your research regarding bottles and teats. The Code is designed to ensure
that all the information that is available to mothers about infant feeding
products is scientific and factual ... and comes from someone who has no
interest in selling them something. Your work in this area is one of the
very things that the Code is trying to encourage and protect.
